Skin Aging

What is skin aging?
Your skin changes as you grow older. As you look in the mirror over the years, you might notice small creases, lines and wrinkles, darkened age spots, or a new texture that wasn't there before. Your skin may become thinner, take longer to heal and you may also notice a loss of fat underneath making skin look less plump, firm and smooth. Over time, skin may become looser and sag. Furrows may form due to the repetitive motions of facial expressions.

What causes skin aging?
The aging process is a normal skin evolution that happens over time, but scientists and dermatologists have found that excessive exposure to the sun's UV rays has the biggest effect on how your skin ages and how early it begins to show signs of aging. Genetics plays a large role in how your skin will age. Smoking cigarettes can lead to premature skin aging.

How do we effectively treat skin aging?
Although it is impossible to stop or slow down the process of aging, we use various treatments and procedures to minimize visible signs of aging and provide skin rejuvenation. Many treatments can be combined to achieve the best results:

What can I expect?
Aging is impossible to stop, therefore any treatments that provide desirable results for you will likely need to be repeated at specific intervals determined by your practitioner. Improving the visible signs of aging is not an exact science, but results are achievable using the techniques described above.

Injectable treatments for skin aging at Orentreich Medical Group are painless, as we apply a topical numbing cream 20-30 minutes prior to treatment.

Have a question about your treatment?
We have a dedicated triage nurse (RN) who answers patient questions during office hours. If you have a problem or question about a procedure or a prescribed medication, please call our office and ask to speak to our nurse. If she is unable to answer your question, she will consult with your practitioner and return your call.
