Dr. Norman Orentreich worked with Carol Phillips, previously the beauty editor of Vogue Magazine, and the Lauder family, to develop a new product line for the Estee Lauder Company. Using non-prescription skin-care formulas developed for his patients, Dr. Orentreich participated in creating Clinique, the first dermatologist-guided, allergy tested, 100% fragrance-free cosmetic brand. Clinique premiered at The Saks Fifth Avenue department store in New York City.
1970 - 1989 INNOVATION
Dr. Norman Orentreich was elected to be the first President of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS). Today, thanks to his motivation to bring surgery fully into the practice of dermatology, dermatologic surgeons’ interests and concerns are the mainstay of the continuing efforts of the ASDS and the American Society for Cosmetic Surgery.
Dr. Norman Orentreich received a US Patent and Trademark for Buf-Puf™, a reusable sponge for daily cleansing and exfoliation of the skin. Clinically proven to exfoliate skin to reveal brighter healthier-looking complexion, the Buf-Puf™ became a household classic item as iconic as a Q-tip® or Kleenex®. Buf-Puf™ is now owned and produced by 3M.
Orentreich Medical Group incorporates Ruby Laser to treat pigmented lesions and remove tattoos. (Currently, our practitioners have six different lasers to treat a wide variety of skin concerns.)
Dr. David Orentreich and Dr. Norman Orentreich’s chapter entitled “Injectable Fluid Silicone” is published in the textbook Dermatologic Surgery: Principles and Practice. Dr. David Orentreich, both independently and with the collaboration of Dr. Norman Orentreich, has written many articles and chapters for publication in English and foreign language medical textbooks and journals.
1990 - PRESENT DAY
Dr. David Orentreich and Dr. Norman Orentreich introduce a new method for the treatment of depressed and bound down scars and wrinkles. “Subcutaneous Incisionless (Subcision®) Surgery for the Correction of Depressed Scars and Wrinkles” is published in the prestigious journal, Dermatologic Surgery.
Orentreich Medical Group practitioners start using Botox® to improve the look of wrinkles and fine lines.
Dr. David Orentreich authored the first article ever to appear in the medical literature describing the treatment of HIV (AIDS) associated facial wasting with a filler. The article was published in the journal Dermatologic Surgery, with the title: “A case of HIV-associated facial lipoatrophy treated with 1000-cs liquid injectable silicone.”
