Attention all you eye beauty addicts! We want to help you keep your eyes glowing and healthy. The delicate eye skin, at less than 1 mm thick, is the thinnest on your entire body and it gets lots of wear and tear. This makes it prone to environmental and sun damage, premature aging, dryness and irritation. Because of this, it needs special care. Hydration is key. The skin is so overly thin and sensitive, you want to prevent this precious skin from becoming damaged.

Eyelid skin is the thinnest on the body.

Here are some tips to take care of your eyelid skin:

  • Wear sun protection. Yes, you can get skin cancer on your eyelids, so protecting them is so important. Apply sunscreen to your face every day and wear sunglasses that block UVA and UVB rays.
  • Drink lots of water and avoid excess salt as much as possible. This will help decrease water retention and can reduce eyelid puffiness.
  • Use an eye cream. Apply a cream specifically formulated for eyelid skin. Using one with one of these ingredients is even better, including hyaluronic acid, coenzyme Q10, niacinamide, alpha hydroxy acids, vitamin K, ceramides, peptides, vitamin C, caffeine, retinoids, chamomile, ferulic acid and vitamin E. A bonus would be to use an eye cream that contains an SPF.
  • Avoid any products that have a tendency to tighten skin or cause redness. Make sure to always use cosmetics that are gentle on your eye area.

There are also lots of procedures that could be done on eyelid skin including various laser treatments, radio frequency, fillers and neurotoxins. Schedule an appointment to see what procedure is appropriate for you! Dr. J – JODI LOGERFO, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC
